“The Ardley United game brings a break from the league on Tuesday evening 7:45pm kick off at the ASM STADIUM. Then at the weekend we are on the road again as we travel to Bedford to face Kempston Rovers, a side now managed by former Thame United Player and Manager, Tony Joyce.
With the Peterborough Sports game cancelled due to adverse weather, the weekend represented the 12th anniversary since Mark West took over as manager of Thame United Football Club – and that in his second spell as manager. Mark arrived at a time when we sat at the bottom of the Hellenic League Premier Division, without a home in Thame and ground sharing at AFC Wallingford. Whilst we were too far adrift that season to avoid relegation, it is a credit to Mark that despite relegation to step 6 and a continued spell of ground sharing at AFC Wallingfod, he stuck with us in the knowledge that we were working hard to deliver a new ground in Thame. Prior to that return he duly won the Hellenic League Division 1 East title in 2009/10, before the start of the current successful partnership with Stuart Blaik and the lifting of the Hellenic Premier Division title – and a return to Southern League football in 2016/17. It does not get recognised enough the contribution that Mark has now made to Thame United, both as a player and manager over nearly two decades. I, for one, am very thankful for all that he has done, and continues to do, and the fun we have had whilst on that journey”.
