United won their 7th consecutive league match on Tuesday evening and, at the same time, maintained their unbeaten away record and moved up to fourth.

The win was sealed inside the first ten minutes as United raced in to a three goal lead to leave their hosts stunned. The first goal arrived after only three minutes when Luke Ricketts received the ball in space and ran at the home defence before releasing the ball to Ben Gray on the left who cut back inside on to his right foot and hit a low shot that beat ex-Thame keeper, Lee Farrow, low to his right.

The lead was extended a minute later when Marcus Mealing again released Ben Gray for a run at goal, who hit a powerful drive from the edge of the box in to the far corner of the goal. United maintained the pressure and were rewarded with a third on ten minutes. Dan Jones floated a corner in to the box that Jon Coverley connected with twice, both efforts being cleared off the line, before Ellis Hercules hammered the ball in to the back of the net.

By this stage, Abingdon had not troubled Cockerill in the Thame goal, with their first opportunity arriving in the 18th minute when an effort from the edge of the box was deflected wide. United, for their part, continued to dominate play and Gray had a chance to score his hat-trick on 39 minutes but he was unable to connect when well placed just to the left of goal. Just before the break Abingdon had another chance to get on the score sheet, but the effort was skewed wide at the far post.

The second half was something of an anti-climax after the first, with United content to defend their lead and hit Abingdon on the break. Despite the home team having more possession than they enjoyed in the first half, they were unable to find their way past a resolute defence where Hercules and Coverley were outstanding, and Cockerill was rarely troubled. Indeed, it was United who always looked the more likely to extend the lead as they increasingly stretched the home side.

As it was, the game ended 3-0 with United looking to take their good form in to the FA Vase match at Alresford Town on Saturday.
