United remain unbeaten on their travels as they secured a well-earned draw at third place Ascot United on Tuesday evening.

United went in to the game looking for a better performance than the one ten days ago at the ASM Stadium when Ascot United ran out 4-0 winners, and they got that in abundance as they frustrated their hosts and could have taken all three points.

However, that was not evident in the opening stages of the game as Ascot United, playing down the slope in the first half, penned United in their own half. Indeed, the hosts almost took the lead after five minutes when a shot came back off the post, but they only had to wait a further five minutes before the goal arrived. Leon Yarnie on the right caused problems for Dan Jones, before crossing for Jermaine Roche to finish confidently from close range.

Following the goal, United started to get back in to the game with Marcus Mealing, in particular, proving a handful for the home defence. His cross from the right hand side flew across the face of the goal without a Thame player able to get the critical touch before, on 17 minutes, the equaliser arrived. Mealing collected the ball on the edge of the box before turning his marker and firing a low shot inside the near post. It was all United at this point as they played some of their best football of the season, with Mealing going close again on 34 minutes. United thought they had taken the lead three minutes later when a delightful free kick from Jones was met by a thunderous header from Adam Hazell only for the Assistant to flag for off-side.

The start of the second half was delayed slightly by a power cut and that seemed to suit the hosts, who immediately forced United back - a pattern which continued throughout the half. However, for all their possession, Cockerill in the Thame goal was rarely threatened, with the best chance for United coming on 80 minutes when Mealing narrowly headed over from a Morris free kick.

In the end, a draw was a fair result with United travelling to Cheltenham Saracens on Saturday looking to maintain the unbeaten start to the season away from the ASM Stadium.

United: Cockerill, Evans, Jones, Hercules, Hall, Lynch, Hazell (Gledhill), Morris, Mealing, West, Ricketts.
