United had the tables turned on them as, having come back from 2-0 down the previous week, they let a two goal lead slip at Berkhamsted.

United went in to the match with Niall Clayton, a recent loan signing from Oxford United, making his debut in goal, with Finlay Murray and Calvin Evans starting in defence, and Aston Goss returning to the starting XI.

And it was United who hit the ground running, opening the scoring in only the fourth minute when Liam Tack surged down the right and hit a low cross in to the box that Aston Goss met at the far post with a deft touch to force the ball home. The home side, whilst enjoying plenty of possession, posed little threat to the United goal in the first half, with the nearest being a free kick from Will Summerfield on 11 minutes that Clayton dealt with comfortably. United almost doubled their lead on 28 minutes when Tack again found himself in space on the right but his shot from the angle just cleared the far post.

Ahead at the break, United came out strongly at the start of the second half and, on 51 minutes, extended their lead from the spot. A ball in to the box fell at the feet of Aston Goss at about the same time as a home defender, with the referee adjudging that Goss had connected with the ball, but the defender with Goss. Lynton Goss stepped-up and placed a powerful spot kick low in to the bottom corner.

United wanted, and needed, to keep hold of the lead for a period of time, but they let the home side back in to the game on 59 minutes. A ball in to the box by Summerfield was parried by Clayton but only in to the path of Jonathan Lacey at the far post who steered the ball home. Shortly afterwards, a through ball from former United player, Dan Jones, found Lacy in space and he shot wide of Clayton. Then, on 69 minutes, the home side scored what proved to be the winner when a ball to the far post was met by Lacey and he completed his hat-trick.

With 20 minutes to go United looked to get back in to the game, but they were met by a well-marshalled defence and, over that period, were unable to create a meaningful chance on goal. The result sees United slip out of the play off places.
