Thame United got their pre-season campaign underway on Saturday with a 5-1 success at Brackley Town Saints.

Taking a squad of 20 players to Brackley, United lined-up as they had for much of last season, and after two early headers from Andy Gledhill and Dan West went just wide of the target, they took the lead on six minutes. Good play down the Thame right resulted in a cross from Ben Connelly to the near post that Gledhill expertly guided in to the far corner wide of the home keeper.

The lead was extended on 13 minutes when an Adam Morris corner was swung in to the near post and Dan West headed in to the corner. With United in control, West and Gledhill played a neat one-two on the edge of the box, with the home keeper doing well to save with his feet. The third goal eventually arrived just after the half hour. United were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal that West bent around the wall and in to the corner of the goal. Just before the break the home side pulled a goal back when David Lynn was adjudged to have fouled the home striker, and the spot kick was confidently converted wide of Henry Craven.

United made seven changes at the break and, only a minute in to the second half one of those changes, Josh Stanford, scored with his first touch, striking a volley in to the far corner. Only a minute later and Stanford fed the ball through to Gledhill who calmly placed the ball wide of the home keeper to make it five. With all the debutants playing their part, United were in control for the remainder of the game, with Lynn striking an effort against the post on 68 minutes before Stanford saw another effort go just wide shortly afterwards.

Next-up for United is a trip to Berkhamsted on Tuesday evening, 7:45pm kick off.
