Youth Team edged out of the cup after a tense affair at the Gore

Thame United Youth were defeated 1-0 against a team top of the Premier Division, but it would have been hard to distinguish between the sides as it was Thame who started the brighter and showed more creativity and desire in the early stages.
The first chance fell to Marcus Castano, who found space on the edge of the area but could only fire wide of the near post.
Next to go close was Alex Rickard, who after good work from Tom Porter and Johnny Thirkell, found space on the edge of the area, but his shot went wide of the target again.
At the other end the defence was outstanding with 2 players still in year 11 at school. Both Tom Swindlehurst, who made his debut last night, and George Ashworth, brother of Tom Ashworth who has played quite excellently for the first team lately, and was the man of the match, gave no change when confronted by Burnham's most dangerous players.
The first half ended goalless with Thame the more frustrated as they had gone close a number of times without really challenging the home team goalkeeper.

The second half kicked off under similar circumstances with the away team dominating but not really challenging the goalkeeper, until on 55 minutes, Marcus Castano controlled well on the edge of the box and brought a fantastic save out of the goalkeeper.
The intensity of the game dropped a little as the younger players of Thame tired a little but they gave nothing away until in the 75th minute a cross from the left was mis-hit, and caught Euan Hutchings completely off his line and dropped in off the post, although Euan desperately tried to claw it away the linesman deemed it had gone over the line and gave the goal.

The last 15 minutes saw Thame press and press for the equaliser but came up short with efforts from Johnny Thirkell and Alex Rickard being blocked by desperate defending, the last, and best chance fell to Ben Pollmer on 85 minutes when his tenacity found him 6 yards out on the right hand side of the box, but as he was stretching for the ball he side footed it over the bar.

The game ended 1-0 to Burnham, but considering the league positions and the age of some of the Thame team, both the manager, coaches and players were pleased with the performances despite the defeat!

The youth team are in action again this week against Buckingham Athletic at home on Thursday (26/11/15) with a 7:45pm KO
