United slipped to their third successive league defeat on Tuesday evening against a Thatcham Town side who took their chances to claim three points

Whilst the game started brightly for United, they found themselves a goal down after only 10 minutes. James Dobson was adjudged to have fouled an opposing player mid-way in the United half and the resultant free kick was floated in to the box for prolific striker Yashwa Romeo to head home. United nearly found the equaliser after 22 minutes, with visiting keeper Chris Rackley nearly fumbling the ball over the line. That was the closest United came to scoring in the first half, and five minutes before the break Thatcham extended the lead when, following a corner, the ball fell to Stuart Parker who drove home from 10 yards.

The second half opened in a similar vein to the first, with United on the front foot. They nearly pulled a goal back on 48 minutes when Luke Ricketts crossed to the near post where a combination of Adam Morris and a defender saw the ball flick on to the cross bar, where it bounced a couple of times, before landing on the roof of the net. Morris went close again five minutes later, this time seeing his effort from the edge of the box go narrowly wide. With little seen of Thatcham in an attacking sense, United continued to press for a goal, with Ben Gray increasingly finding more space down the right. However, the goal would not arrive, with Dan West going close with a header over the bar from a Matt Hall free kick on 70 minutes.

Despite having the majority of possession and territory, United could not find a way through a resolute Thatcham defence, with the visitors holding on for all three points.

United:
