United won their final home league match of the season and in the process leap-frogged their visitors in to sixth place.

Both sides came in to the game on a poor run of form, but it was United who opened strongly with, in the opening 15 minutes, Conor McDonagh twice going close, scuffing his first effort wide, before his second effort, when through on goal after a Luke Ricketts pass, was pushed on to the post by Harding in the Ardley goal. The deadlock was eventually broken on 19 minutes, albeit in slightly bizarre circumstances. McDonagh was again put though on goal, only for the retreating Harry Brock to get a foot to the ball but, in doing so, he managed to divert the ball over the head of Harding and in to the back of the net.

Ardley then enjoyed their best spell of the game, with Matt Tapping called on in the 24th minute to push an effort from Andy Prescott over the bar. However, the lead was extended five minutes before the break when, following a typical run, captain Adam Morris, calmly beat Harding at his near post from 20 yards. And it was almost three just before the break when Ben Connelly just placed a header wide from a Matt Hall cross.

The visitors had an opportunity to reduce the arrears early in the second half when Conor Ingram was unable to connect with a well-flighted cross in to the box, but United continued to press with first Morris and then McDonagh seeing efforts saved by Harding. The lead was eventually extended on 65 minutes. McDonagh, again put clean through on goal, was clipped as he rounded the keeper with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. McDonagh stepped-up to place the ball wide of Harding. Whilst opportunities continued to present themselves, the lead was not extended further until the 89th minute when, after a corner had initially been cleared, Jesson put an inch perfect cross back in to the box that West headed home from close range.

United:
Tapping, Evans (Jesson), Hall (Hazell), Hercules, Coverley, Lynch, Connelly, Morris, McDonagh (Gledhill), West, Ricketts.
