Five unanswered goals in the second half gave United a comfortable win on Tuesday evening against Brackley Town Saints.

The first half offered little evidence of what was to follow as the visitors enjoyed plenty of possession without really threatening, whilst United were themselves unable to find any real rhythm.

That all changed in a one-sided second half as United were clinical in front of goal. The first arrived on 49 minutes when a Ricketts free kick from the right was floated in to the box where Ben Gray flicked the ball wide of the keeper and in to the far corner. It was 2-0 on 57 minutes as good interplay between Ricketts and Gray on the left saw the keeper parry a shot in to the path of Andy Gledhill who headed the ball home from close range. United continued to press and scored the third on 65 minutes from another set piece. Ricketts again floated the free kick in from the right and this time it was met be Ellis Hercules who placed the ball wide of the keeper.

Gledhill got his second and United’s fourth on 70 minutes when substitute Dan West hit a shot from the edge of the box that the visiting keeper could again only parry in to the path of Gledhill who finished comfortably. The scoring was complete on 78 minutes when West capitalised on a mistake in the visiting defence and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.

Even then United had opportunities to extend their lead with a Dan West effort pushed around the post by the keeper, Ben Connelly going close from the edge of the box, and a Shannon Jesson volley just clearing the bar.

The win makes it nine points from four games for United and pushes them up to seventh in the table. Next up for United are Highmoor Ibis who visit the ASM Stadium on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick off).
