Thame Academy 10 - 1 Burnham Academy

No 'New Year' Hangover as Thame academy begin 2016 with a 10 - 1 win against Burnham Academy

Thame Academy began 2016 with a home fixture against Burnham Academy. The fixture was in doubt early on with all the rain that had fallen both locally and nationally, but credit to the ground staff for preparing the pitch and ensuring the fixture went ahead.

Burnham's results had been rather mixed to this point which suggested the games result could have been a bit of a 'lottery' in terms of how strong they were going to be.

Thame Academy kicked off and immediately got into a comfortable passing routine with all players seeing a lot of the ball under extremely heavy conditions.
On 2 minutes Thame took the lead when Ben Pollmer found space and time in the box and, after good feet was brought down by their defender and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Marcus Castano who despatched it calmly down the middle of the goal.
The next 15 minutes went by and the game was completely controlled by Thame, with build up play from back to front ending in chance after chance. The next goal came on 20 minutes when a corner was floated in by Alex Rickard and met with a powerful header by Charlie Attwell at the far post.
On 25 minutes it was 3-0 with arguably the best goal of then game when a driven pass from the previous goal scorer Charlie Attwell split the Burnham defence found Tom Ashworth 25 yards out, his control in mid-air took 2 defenders out of the game and with the ball still bouncing lobbed the goal keeper from the edge of the box, pure class from the skipper.
It was 4-0 on 34 minutes, and a goal that would certainly challenge Tom's for goal of the half when Amir Jafri played a couple of 1-2's with Marcus Castano and Bertie Turvey and lofted a neat ball into Marcus Castano who got to the ball before the outrushing goal keeper to neatly lob the ball into an empty net.
On 41 minutes the 5th goal came when Jack Kibble wriggled free on the right hand side of the box and drove an unstoppable effort into the bottom left corner, giving the goal keeper no chance.
Burnham got a consolation goal in the last minute of the half when it seemed the whole back 4 and midfield went to sleep and allowed their striker to have a free shot on goal, which Nathan saved but the rebound caught him out and it trickled over the line.
Half Time
Thame Academy 5 - 1 Burnham Academy
The second half kicked off and the flow was pretty much the same with Thame dominating possession and not allowing Burnham any opportunities to get on the ball at all.
Thame scored their 6th goal on 60 minutes when Jack Kibble was put through by Marcus Castano and his right footed shot found its way into the bottom left corner, a proper strikers goal!
Thame made it 7-1 on 65 minutes when, Marcus Castano who again was involved in the build up, and put Brad Stowe in on the edge of the box, he struck an unstoppable effort that struck the underside of the bar and went in. By this time Thame were in complete control and were looking like they could have beaten anyone!
Thame made it 8-1 on 74 minutes when an excellent through ball from Marcus Castano found Bertie Turvey one on one with the goal keeper, he composed himself and neatly slotted into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Thame were not finished by now and substitute Jacob Hearne came on and scored the 9th Thame goal on 78 minutes when a through ball bounced nicely in between him and the goal keeper with the striker calmly lofting the ball over his head into an empty net.
The final goal came on 84 minutes and was certainly one of the best of the game. Marcus Castano picked the ball up on the left flank, level with the 18 yard box, he looked like he had lost it but managed to nick the ball between 2 defenders, played a 1-2 with Tom Ashworth and fired an unstoppable shot from just inside the 18 yard box into the far corner of the goal. It was certainly a goal to end the scoring and one not to forget from the young player completing his hat trick.
A thoroughly enjoyable game on the whole which continues the A teams fine run of form.
