Thame Rangers 2 Chinnor 1
By Dave Ridgley
Thame Rangers ended the year with victory against neighbours Chinnor FC. With only 10 fit players available to start and Manager Craig Faulconbridge playing with an injury Thame Rangers pulled off a great victory.
Thame Rangers found themselves a goal down early but recovered well and went on to enjoy large amounts of possession including efforts on goal that came to nothing. Dan Hatton equalised on the half hour mark with a well-placed effort from distance in the bottom corner. On the stroke of half time the opposition were reduced to 10 men and the sides went in level at the break.
The second half was more entertaining with better efforts on goal from both teams as the game opened up. Faulconbridge had a header that went just wide and a goal bound Dan Hatton shot was blocked by a defender. Miles Baxter shot from distance appeared over the line as it was being clawed back into play. Patrick Buston then missed an effort from close range. Chinnor had an opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot but Stuart Braun dragged the ball wide.
A subtle change to Rangers formation created the second goal as young George Ashworth was up ended in the box for a penalty which Hatton converted. Soon after Faulconbridge hit a free kick just over then Patrick Buston was fouled in the area for yet another penalty. Hatton rattled the bar this time. Our opposition were then reduced to 9 men as another saw red. The game closed out with the home side taking all the points. It was great to finish the year with a win and good to win when we were far from our best.
