Thame Academy Development win again

Thame Academy Development win against top of the league Hungerford

Thame Academy Development travelled to Hungerford today to take on league leaders Hungerford in their latest challenge to remain unbeaten till Christmas.

The game started very tentatively with Thame struggling to get going, and with only a minute on the clock found themselves 1-0 down due to a defensive mix-up between centre backs and Euan in goal, which allowed their striker to prod the ball home from 5 yards.

This sparked the away team into life, and within a minute of going behind, Kieron Moreton found himself in space on the left hand side, his cross was met powerfully by the head of Jay Hatcher who made no mistake from 8 yards, 1-1.

Thame took control of the game with tackles flying in from both teams, one of which catching Nathan Lang on the outside of his foot. He quickly looked for revenge and with the very next play committed a foul.

The next goal came on 20 minutes when Toby ward, who was celebrating his 18th birthday, found space between his opponents midfielders and defenders, turned smartly and shot a full 20 yards from goal. The goalkeeper could only parry it back into play, straight into Jacob Hearne's path who made no mistake from a couple of yards to score his first goal in the Academy.

Thame Academies 3rd and best goal of the game came on 35 minutes when Charlie Attwell carried the ball out of defence, past 3 or 4 Hungerford players and, with the outside of his boot, played an inch perfect pass, dissecting the Hungerford defence and straight into Jacob Hearne's path. His first touch was excellent which opened up the goal to neatly slot into the far corner, giving the goal keeper no chance.

HT Hungerford Academy 1 - 3 Thame Academy

The second half drew a stale mate as the Thame Academy managed the game at 3-1 giving no chances away but creating little in return.

Man of the match Alex Chilcott controlled the midfield and showed why he is looking to progress into the top team at the academy with regular impressive performances despite his relatively young age
