Kidlington Youth U16 2 Thame Colts U16 4
Convincing win kicks off Colts' league campaign
Despite the sporadic wind and rain, an enjoyable afternoon was had by all in Kidlington as the Colts began their league campaign with a resounding victory. Although we opened the scoring fairly early after Barnaby's impressive surge and cross from the right was unfortunately netted by a home defender, the opposition arguably had the better of possession and played the more fluent football for much of the first half, equalising after one of several raids down their left. The sides were level at the break, which was probably about right. However in the second period things seemed to 'click', and Cameron's run and shot, Henry's fantastic side-footed volley from 18 yards and Ioan's cool finish from a tight angle after rounding the 'keeper made the final score 4-1 to the Colts.
It wasn't all about the goals though: although needed to make a couple of good saves, Reuben was well protected by those in front of him which meant he enjoyed one of his quieter games. The backline took the opportunity to push forward where possible, and this coupled with an energetic display from our midfielders gave Kidlington increasing problems as they pressed to get back into the match, leaving gaps at the back in the second half. The only downside was a couple of yellow cards: Mike stressed afterwards that although we will now pick up the odd one as referees become firmer, cards given for backchat to officials are unnecessary and likely to result in anyone picking up a yellow for this being substituted (and having to pay any club fine that is incurred!).
