Thame edged out of the semi-finals

Thame Colts played their second tournament of the season and just missed out on the medal matches. Thame opened well against Risborough with Eddie and George B drawing saves out of the keeper before we had to settle for a 0-0 draw. Next match up against the stand out team, Bourne End, ended in a last minute 2-1 loss. Bourne End were the stronger and for much of the game we competed defiantly in our own penalty area, but after they took the lead Thame broke out and Eddie B put Jonny H in for a superbly taken goal. A moment's lack of concentration and we lost the chance of a second draw.

Thame had their chances against Marlow where again Ed and George B had the goalkeeper scrambling before losing a couple of goals. Results elsewhere meant that we were still in the tournament until a disappointing loss against Beaconsfield where the boys lost their way, combined with a surprise loss for Bourne End meant the last match was a dead rubber.

The game started haplessly as Thame apparently didn't hear the whistle and the Pitstone forward jogged through and passed the ball into the net. There was a risk that we were going to collapse, but the players galvanised themselves with two well-taken goals by Jonny and then a neat flick in by George W from a Jonny corner. 3-1 to Thame-a first win of the season!

Slightly disappointing after a positive start, Thame were a bit inconsistent but George B and Nikhil played well at the back and drove the attacks forward, Jamie pulled off his usual hatful of brave and spectacular saves and Nick tracked back well, and could have got a goal if the ball would have sat down for him. Some goals, some good play and some close games-we are building up for the next tournaments.
