Following the great success from the weekend whereby Thame Boys u13 brought home the league cup with a 2-1 win over Burnham
We managed to track down Coach Jimmy Key for an interview. So a massive thank you to Jimmy and everyone for helping put Thame on the football map

*** QUESTION TIME ***

On reflection what are your thoughts about the game? Were there any key moments?
JIMMY - 'It was such a tight game. Burnham are a very good team and we were hanging on for the last 15 minutes or so. Everyone was very nervous pre-match as we lost in the Oxford County Cup Final last week against a team we really should have beaten and it put extra pressure on this game. But we absolutely deserved it in the end, we were fantastic. The key moment has to be the penalty miss in the second half, if that had gone in I think it would have been a different outcome.’

Who was the man of the match and why?
JIMMY - 'My goalkeeper, Lewis Moore-Hodgkinson. It was honestly the best goalkeeping performance I’ve ever seen in a youth football match. Not only did he save a penalty but also pulled off a number of other incredible stops. He was sensational.’

How did you all celebrate at the weekend?
JIMMY - 'Well I’ve got 2 very young kids so no celebrating for me unfortunately! I was back home on dad duty straight after the game.’

What do you have to do in your role as coach? How long have you been involved with Thame Boys/Youth?
JIMMY - 'I’ve been looking after the team since they were 4, so I’ve been doing it for nearly 10 years now. I’m very lucky that I’ve still got quite a few lads with me now that have been there right from the start. My role is to organise everything behind the scenes, take training and get the boys prepared on match day. I’m a firm believer that if you’ve got good enough players then you shouldn’t over complicate things. Get them in the correct shape, motivate them and let them get on with it.’

Are there any of your side that we need to be keeping an eye on in the future?
JIMMY - 'I’ve got a fantastic squad with top players in every position but I’ll be surprised if Reece Way and Bertie Heyes don’t end up playing for Thame United or someone similar in the future.’

What is next for this group of players?
JIMMY - 'We have 3 league games left and we need 6 points to win the league, winning the Double would be an incredible achievement for these boys. After that, we’d love to finally win Thame tournament, that would really top off this season in style.’

Any final comments for the fans and followers?
JIMMY - 'Just that if anyone is considering running a team now or in the future please put yourself forward to do so. Yes it is a huge commitment and there’s a lot of work but it is so rewarding and it is an opportunity to do something really great for the local community.’
