Thame United welcomed Kidlington to the ASM Stadium on this Bank Holiday Monday in this Southern League Central Division One, Oxfordshire derby. Last season Kidlington did the double over Thame with two 2 -1 victories. With the quick turn around of games Manager Ben Williams made a number of changes to the side that won away at Enfield FC on Saturday to freshen the side up. Into the side came Ollie Hogg, Jefferson Louis, Tom McElroy and a full start for new boy Brayden Daniel. Fabian Garcia, Jack Tutton, & Reece Cameron, dropped to the bench.Unlike to dreadful conditions on Saturday the sun was out and the pitch was looking in great condition and a bank holiday crown of 171 had gathered to watch this local derby.
Thame kicked off playing from right to left in the first half, it was Kidlington who had the first shot on goal after 9 minutes, a nicely worked move found the winger free on the edge of the box, but his shot was wide. At the other end from a free kick, Jefferson Louis header was saved by the Kidlington keeper. Harry Alexander then had a shot which went wide, and Mark Riddick had another header but it was easily saved by the visitors keeper, Thame were in the ascendency at this point and the break through came on 26 minutes, Harry Alexander picking up the ball on the half way line, driving into the Kidlington half then playing a delightful ball between the centre back and left full back for Brayden Daniel to run onto and pass the ball into the left hand corner of the goal, a goal on his full debut. Almost immiedialty Thame's pressing in midfield won the ball back and was played out to Daniel on the right but this time his shot was well saved by the Kidlington keeper. Kidlington suffered and early set back when their center back Jenkins had to be replaced having picked up an injury The visitors kept pressing and had a couple of attempts but neither troubled the homes sides keeper. The half ended with Thame 1 - 0 to the good.
The second half kicked off with neither team making any changes, and it wasn’t long before the home side doubled their lead, Daniel picked up the ball on the right, crossed into the box where Oscar Lucey was first to the ball, his shot was saved by the Kidlington keeper only for the ball to rebound to Jefferson Louis who had an easy tap in. Thame had their third a few minutes later, a break saw Louis pick the ball up from the half way line drive at the Kidlington defence then release Daniel on the right, he drove into the box, then laid the ball off to Alexander who fired the ball into the roof of the net. The visitors were really struggling to deal with the pace of the Thames wide men. On 64 minutes, Curtis Brown and Alfie Tucker replaced Daniel and Alexander. On 70 minutes Thame won a corner the ball was floated in by Tucker with the keeper only managing to push the ball into the air and Mark Riddick was the first to react to hook the ball into the net. 4 - 0 Thame, and were looking for more, Tom McElroy had a shot save by the visitors keeper then Curtis Brown saw his shot from outside the box, crash against the bar. Manager Ben Williams had the luxury of making a triple substitution on 75 minutes with Reece Cameron, Fabian Garcia and Jack Tutton replacing McElroy, Hogg and Louis. It wasn’t long before Fabian Garcia scored Thames fifth, a break from midfield with Brown, pickup the ball and laying it off to Garcia on the left who’s first time shot from out side the area curled past the approaching keeper and nestled into the back of the net. The game ended with an emphatic 5 -0 victory for the home side, no more than they deserved on their second half performance. A good bank holiday two wins six goals and two clean sheets. And now move onto FA Cup action this Saturday when step 3 side Wingate and Finchley visit the ASM stadium.
