Thame United Women started their new journey in division 2 after gaining promotion last season with an away trip to newly formed Didcot Town Ladies.
The fixture saw Thame playing on Didcots main pitch at the loop meadow stadium. This was a big change for the ladies with different conditions to what they are used to. However they didn’t take too long to get going as Shona Reid-Evans put us ahead with only 2 minutes on the clock getting on the end of perfectly weighted through ball by Skipper Amy Clarke.
10 minutes later it was déjà vu as Shona Reid-Evans and Amy Clarke link up perfectly again to double our lead on the 12th minute. Shona completed a first half hatrick inside 20 minutes after Jo Taylor picks her out on the right hand side to finish first time.
Amelia Newman opened her account 7 minutes later after some tricky footwork saw her 1 on 1 with the Didcot keeper and she made no mistake by finishing in the bottom corner from just inside the area.
Didcot got given a lifeline on the 29th minute after a trip in the box by Ashleigh Poolan saw the ref point to the spot. Didcots number 10 stepped up to take the penalty, however sent it blazing over the bar.
A minute later Enya Lee managed to redeem herself with some quick thinking down the right hand side. Running passed the defence to slot home from a tight angle. Giving Didcot their only goal of the afternoon.
Thame quickly bounced back from conceding, pushing the scoreline further ahead when Yasmin Williams took on 4 players to give an easy tap in for Talia Mead who was in the right place at the right time.
After a few chances going just wide the half ended with the Red Kites leading 5-1 in their opening game
Didcot came out stronger in the second half linking up well to get a few chances which was matched perfectly by Ashleigh Rogers in goal. However Thame found their feet again through Yasmin Williams on the 61st minute after she picked the ball up on the half way line and exploited the space on the left side of the pitch running it all the way to the Didcot goal and pass it in at near post.
Our final goal came in the 86th minute with debutant Emma Potts finding a gap in the Didcots defence to send Shona Reid-Evans through to blast a powerful effort past the Didcots keeper who was routed to the spot.
A convincing 7-1 win to start Thame’s division 2 campaign. With Sarah Winfield being voted player of the match by our sponsors
