It’s Emirates FA Cup action this weekend as Thame United travel to Surrey to take on Pitching In Southern League Premier South side Chertsey Town, in the First Qualifying Round. At this stage of the competition the step three sides enter and join the remaining step four and five teams that have made it through the preliminary rounds, meaning there are 112 ties to be played over the weekend. Last season Thame United reached this stage with victories against Aylesbury and Beaconsfield before losing to Step three side Wingate and Finchley at The ASM Stadium, while Chertsey reached the fourth qualifying round going out to Sutton United.
This is the Red Kites second tie in this seasons competition after being drawn away to Western League Side Clevedon Town in the Preliminary Round, which on paper looked a tricky match as the home team had won all of their league games and beaten Kidlington in the previous round. But goals from Jenson Wright, Louise Walsh and Harry Alexander saw the visitors comfortably progress . It was welcome relief from the league campaign which has seen Thame fall to three defeats against Hertford Town, Leighton Town and most recently a Bank Holiday defeat away at Leverstock Green.
Chertsey (or The Curfews) as they are also known as have had a mixed start to the Southern League Premier League campaign, with five games gone, they have one win, two draws and two defeats, most recently coming from behind to secure a home draw against Uxbridge. Both sides will be looking to progress to the next round and although Chertsey will go into the game as favourites in a one off cup game anything can happen. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time, with a replay scheduled for Tuesday 2 September 19:45 at the ASM Stadium
HEAD TO HEAD:
There is no recent history of the two sides playing each and you have to go back the year 2000 when the two teams last played each other, the two teams have met a total of nine times mainly in the Isthmian League with Thame yet to beat The Curfews, lets hope theres a first time for everything this weekend.
