Thame took a break from league action this week as they travelled to Launton ladies in the County Cup 2nd round. This was an opportunity to get passed the second round for the first time since the reformation in 2019.
It was a very even first half with minimal chances occurring for either side. Thame’s best chance fell to Demi Demington when Talia Mead turned her marker down the right hand side and put in a low cross which Demi met put the shot was inches wide. A cagy first half finished all square 0 - 0.
It only took Thame only 3 minutes into the second half to take the lead after skipper Amy Cowen managed to spot the run of Ailsa Milne down the centre and put a pinpoint ball over the top for Ailsa to chase down. She found herself one on one with the Launton keeper and placed it calmly into the bottom right corner, scoring her first senior goal and Thames first of the afternoon.
Launtons only real chance of the game came to their number 9 who hit a curling effort from just outside the box but it was matched by Lillie Eames who managed to palm it away.
In the final 10 minutes Thame put the game to bed with the link up between Amy Cowen and Ailsa Milne caught the Launton defence off guard with an almost replica of the first goal. 2nd for Thames and a 2nd for Ailsa.
After the second goal went in things started to turn with tackles flying in from the Launton team with the first booking coming to Launtons number 17 for a late tackle on Talia Mead.
Into added time JayJay White switched to the left wing and picked the ball up on the halfway line beating 4 launton players for pace to put a low ball into the back post for Skipper Amy Cowen to continue her scoring record as she slid in to put it into an empty net.
The game ended 3 - 0 to Thame and they progress to the second round.
