Biggleswade Town 1 - 0 Thame United

Thame United made the long trip on Saturday to face Biggleswade Town in Division one of the Pitching in South League, When the teams met earlier in the season Thame were 1 - 0 winners, since then both teams fortunes have differed, with Biggleswade now sitting at the top of the table and pushing for automatic promotion.

There were a number of changes for todays team, captain Jefferson Louis was back in the squad but remained on the bench with Romeo Ebonda retaining his place at centre back. Mark Riddick was unavailable for todays match and was replaced by Matty Harriot, Dani Lucas and James Towell dropped to the bench with Pierce McNamara and Ollie Hogg coming into the starting line up.

As you would expect from a side chasing the title, it was a dominant first half with all the chances being created at the Thame end. There was a blow for the visitors on 33 minutes as Finn Murray pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Jefferson Louis. However a combination of some good saves from keeper Davis and some determined defending, the home side were frustrated in their attempts to open the scoring. And the game went into half time at 0 - 0 .

The second half was much the same as the first with Biggleswade creating all the chances but Thame holding out with more good defensive work. The game was starting to become a bit fractious, with both the Biggleswade wade players and bench questioning every decision the referee was giving and yellow cards were being dished out across the pitch. Thame made a double substitution with James Towell and Louis Fountain replacing Ollie Hogg and Matty Harriot on 65 minutes.

Still Biggleswade pushed forward and Thame held out, but were coming more into the game and creating some pressure on the Biggleswade wade defence especially from the wide areas. As the game reached the 90 minute mark the referee added 6 minutes of stoppage time. Heartbreak was to come for the visitors as their resolute defence was finally breached on 93 minutes. A cross from the right hand side into the six yard box found the Biggleswade number 12 and for a split second the Thame defence switched off and it was enough to get a touch on the ball and beat keeper Davis from close range.

It was a desperately disappointing end to a match where the game plan worked for 92 minutes and it was looking like it would be a well earned point on the road for the visitors.

With two games to play its still anyones guess what the final outcome at the bottom of the table will be, next up is our final home game of the season on 20 April agains Kings Langley.
