Thame United are on their travels this weekend in the Pitching In Southern League Central Division One as they head to Maccabi London Sports Ground to take on London Lions. This Saturday’s fixture will mark the second time, Thame United have met the London Lions in a competitive fixture and as the lions have embarked on their first season at step four after overcoming Wormley Rovers in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division play-off final back in May After a 1 - 1 draw at 90 minutes, the Lions went onto win 4-3 on penalties and book their spot at step 4 for the first time in their history, and has been a meteoric rise into semi professional football, since forming in 1995. So far this season the have held their own in their debut season currently sitting in twelfth place on thirty nine points from their twenty eight games played, with some notable wins against Hertford, Barton Rovers, Hadley and Welwyn Garden City. This week they took on step 3 Berkhamstead in the Hertfordshire Charltiy Cup Semi Final and after being 3 - 1 in the lead succumbed to a late equaliser then went out on penalties. The first meeting in October at the ASM was a close physical affair with Thame coming out on top by 2 - 1, with goals from Lance Williams and Dan West securing the three points.
Meanwhile Thame continue their good run of form at the weekend with a hard fought 1 - 1 draw at home to Barton Rovers moving them to the top of the form guide for division one with eight matches unbeaten and the best run in the division, a debut goal from Abu Khan levelled up the scoreline after Barton took an early second half lead. But Thame are suffering more than most clubs with postponements, this weeks home game against Hadley for the second time was called off in the afternoon as the pitch was waterlogged and the previous Tuesday home game against Welwyn Garden City also falling fowl of the weather and now have four midweek games to fit in between now end of April. Both teams have reached fifty goals scored so far this season, with London Lions Jack Mattey on ten, while Thames Louis Walsh and Harry Alexander have both scored eleven each.
