Thame United hit the road again on Good Friday to start their Easter campaign when they travel to play Northwood in the Pitching In Southern League Central Division One, the two teams met back in December at the ASM Stadium in a remarkable match that saw nine goals scored, Thame going into half time two nil in the lead then a flurry of goals early in the second half saw the home side lead five goals to two before late goals for each side saw the game end six goals to three. Since that game Northwood have seen a change in the management team with Jack Smith and JJ Bates who were in charge at the ASM stadium being replaced by Tommy Cooney in January and an over haul of the squad followed. Since that meeting Northwood have struggled in and around the bottom four for most of the season, and have only picked up seven points in contrast to Thame that have gained forty three points. However there was some encouragement for the woods at the weekend as they went on to notch up only their fifth win of the season with a three - one win at Stotfold and followed that with a credible two, two home draw agains Welwyn Garden City. Meanwhile Thame share the points at the ASM Stadium on Saturday with a hard fought one - one draw at home to another inform side Ware, the point keeps them three points above Hertford in the final play off spot with five games to go. The results from Saturday meant there is now only four points separating third place and sixth and it looks like a race between four sides for the three play off spots with Ware not mathematically out of contention but are eight points adrift now of fifth spot. Northwood are now twelve points from safety sitting in eighteenth place and it will be a tough ask to avoid the drop into step five and would need a scenario where they won all of their remaining five matches and Aylesbury lost all of their final games. In fact this Friday could see them relegated depending on other results around them.
