In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, Thame United’s U8 JPL side were crowned the Winter Regional Cup Champions. The young footballers showcased their talent by not losing a game throughout the season, culminating in a remarkable victory vs Worcester City Youth in December.
In addition to their regional success, the team made an impressive run in the JPL National U8 Cup Final held on Saturday 15th March at St Georges Park. Competing against some of the best youth teams in the country, they displayed resilience and skill, ultimately finishing as runners-up. They won their first two matches against Southampton Champions, AFC Stoneham Spitfires 8-0 and the Devon Champions, Saints Southwest Devon 3-2 and then fell just short of claiming the national title, losing 2-0 to the Bradford Champions, FSC Academy.
Despite the loss, the team’s achievement of reaching the national final is a testament to their talent and potential. Parents and supporters gathered to cheer for the team, celebrating their remarkable journey throughout the season. “We are incredibly proud of our young players. They’ve shown great sportsmanship and commitment,” said a parent representative. Coach Sam Shepherd praised the players for their hard work, stating, “Their dedication and teamwork have been exceptional this season. They truly deserve this success.”
As Thame United JPL U8s look forward to future competitions, the local community continues to rally behind them, eager to witness their growth and success. The team is hoping to make it to the Spring National Cup Finals.
Well done to all the players and coaches for an excellent achievement.
