Thame raise their game for their home tournament

Thame entered 2 teams in the Colts tournament and gave a good account of themselves in the driving rain on Saturday 7th. Thame Blacks produced gutsy displays against stronger teams with much endeavour and courage in defence. Connor finished the season as he played all of it-tackling everything that moved. Nikhil was again calmness personified and with Connor and Leo held the line superbly. Jamie was again a splendid shot stopper and did his best to get the Black's forward line moving. Alex was determined, Drew showed his usual neat touches and Leo marauded forward whenever he had the chance. The team carried more threat when Johnny H arrived later in the morning and he scored a 4th goal in his second tournament and took our minds off the rain with a scorpion kick in the final game.

Thame Reds had their chances to progress but couldn't quite take them. Against Chinnor B the team bounced back after losing an early goal when Eddie got the leveller and his first since Xmas. However, Thame couldn't hang on to the draw they deserved. Against the eventual runners up (Risborough B) Thame had plenty of chances but lost 1-0 to a very well worked goal, and against the winners (Wendover) Thame took the lead from a Scott drive from half way and were then all over a physically stronger team. However, after conceding a good goal to lose the lead, Thame switched off and went behind from the kick off.

Eddie was really on his game in attack and defence and George B and Scott were excellent in defence and in bringing the game forward. George W took the keeper role and performed well and James and Jordan carried the ball well and created plenty of goal chances.

In the match between the teams it ended all square and summed up each team. The Reds had plenty of chances and could have won if they had converted a penalty; but the Blacks battled superbly and deserved their draw.

Last action of the season-thanks to the indomitable parents who spent yet another morning out in the rain, at least next season we will have the gazebo that Claire Turner managed to find when the storm was at its height!
