Presidents Cup Quarter Final:
Thame United Reserves 3-0 Chinnor
A long history of rivalry, but just a short five miles separate Thame and Chinnor geographically. Chinnor currently playing in Oxford Senior League Division one, 5th in the league below Thame, who currently sit top of the Oxford Senior Premier Division.
Thame got the game underway and threatened early. It took just five minutes to open the scoring, Chinnor stunned by some excellent play. Taylor Goodby picked up the ball in the middle of the park and bent a ball with the outside of his boot to the onrushing wingback Lewis Cross. He drove through into the box and finished neatly into the far corner.
Chinnor to their credit battled hard and were winning duels which kept them in the game. A few corners and free kicks into the Thame box the only threat throughout the first 45. Thame however forced a couple of saves out of the Chinnor keeper, to no avail.
Half time and finely balanced, with Chinnor still well in the game at this stage.
Only four minutes into the second half and the ever-threatening Charlie Stow latched onto a through ball, beat both defenders to it and carried the ball through on goal - calmly slotting past the keeper. 2-0.
Both sides made several subs and Thame remained in control of the game. Chances were more regular as the game made it to the latter stages. Chinnor dug out a half chance to try and get back into the game with fifteen minutes to go. However it was Thame who looked more threatening still and finally scored a third to secure the win. Sub Josh Russell and Lewis Cross combining on the left, before Russell played a great ball across to the edge of the box which Dino Bonwick smashed in, leaving the keeper no chance.
Thame make it through to the semi finals where they’ll face Chalgrove at home, date to be confirmed.
Best of luck to Chinnor for the remainder of their season.
