Thame United welcomed AFC Dunstable to The ASM Stadium for this Pitching In Southern League Division One tie, with the amount of games recently played manager Ben Williams made some changes to the starting line up. In came Brayden Daniel and Ollie Hogg replacing Curtis Brown and Dan West who reverted to the bench.
It was a frantic start to the game with both clubs pushing forward looking for the opening goal. On 9 minutes Harry Alexander pushed forward and found Greg Hackett who drove into the box and fired a shot into the near side with the keeper wrong footed. Dunstable came back into the game forcing Thame back and were in control of the midfield and looking dangerous. The equaliser came on 33 minutes. A misplaced header meant to go back to the centre back was only guided onto the on running Dunstable attacker, who drove into the box and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. The half ended with the scores level, with nothing in it between the two teams.
Thame were forced to make a halftime substitute with Phil Croker replacing Leo Galpin at centre back, to make things worse for Thame on 61 minutes the other starting centre back Fin Murray had to e replaced as he went down with an injury. Dan West came on an slotted into the back four. On 66 minutes Thame made a double substitution with Tom McElroy, who was on a yellow card for a mistimed tackle and Brayden Daniel being replaced by Jefferson Louis and Curtis Brown. Thame were pressing and on 71 minutes Greg Hackett got his second, he picked up the ball from a cross from Josh Stranks on the left, drove into the box and finished past the keepers left hand side. A few minutes later another Hacket had another attempt whihc looked goal bound but the keeper dived and managed to push the ball round the post. Dunstable were looking dangerous and the equaliser came on 83 minutes. A cross from the right was headed out only for it to fall to a Dunstable player who fired a first time shot into the net, with keeper Crowther having no chance.
It was end to end with both teams looking for the winner, Thame thought they had it on 93 minutes, Harry Alexander picked up the ball in central midfield and found Greg Hackett unmarked on the left, he drove into the box and finished into the right hand corner, only for the linesman to raise his flag for offside, a very tight call.
As the clock ticked down Dunstable had a final attack on the right as the ball was played into the Dunstable Centre forward on the edge of the box, he had time to shoot through two Thame defenders and the ball found the near post with keeper Crowther unsighted. Dunstable had one it with the final kick of the game.
For the neutral a very entertaining game played at a very fast pace, on reflection a draw would have been a fair result.
We now move on to face an away trip to play Biggleswade FC on Saturday 2 November kick off 3pm.
