It’s a big match this Bank Holiday Monday when near neighbours Aylesbury United are the visitors to the ASM in the Pitching In Southern League Central Division One. Last season there were three meetings between the two teams twice in the league and in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup, with Thame coming out on top on all three occasions without conceding a goal. This season, Aylesbury have seen a change of manager with Paul Batchelor taking the helm in October but have been hovering around the relegation zone for a large part of the season, Its a quick turnaround for both teams having played on Good Friday with differing fortunes and is the second meeting in less than three weeks having been impacted by postponements.
The two teams finally got to play each other in March, with honours even and six goals shared, Thame came from behind twice to score a late equaliser from Leo Galpin’s with his first touch after coming on as a substitute. It wasn't one of Thames best performances but dug in to come away with a point. Since that game Aylesbury have gone on to loose against Hitchin Town and Barton Rovers on Good Friday but secured an important 10 - 1 victory over Rayners Lane, which has very likely secured their step 4 survival for another season and set the record for the most goals scored in a match this season in the league. Meanwhile Thame have gone onto gain ten points from a possible twelve with wins against Rayners Lane, Hadley a draw at home to Ware, then on Good Friday a good performance away at Northwood FC to secure a 3 - 0 win, this could have been a tricky match with Northwood needing a win to keep their hope of staying in the league alive. Thame stay in the play off places now six points ahead of Hertford one point behind Biggleswade Town and on the same points as Biggleswade FC, with four games to go. There will be a number of ex Thame players in the Aylesbury squad returning to the ASM this Monday including Rocko Tamplin, Fabian Garcia and Hayden Beadle.
