Thame United vs Beaconsfield Town Match Report 1 November

A day to forget for Thame United with a heavy home defeat.

Thame United: 1 - 4 Beaconsfield Match Report

Thame United's Jekyl and Hyde season continued this Saturday as Beaconsfield left The ASM Stadium with a comprehensive 4 - 1 victory. After two very credible performances and away wins against Biggleswade Town and Flackwell Heath, expectations were high that the run could continue. However a well organised Beaconsfield side put paid to that with two goals in each half to secure victory and move them ahead of Thame in the table. Manager Ben Williams keeper problems continued as Archie Davis who had been between the sticks for the last two games had picked up a knock in the midweek win against Flackwell Heath, he was replaced by Tyrese Kamara a young keeper signed from Hitchin Town, making it the fourth keeper used this season. The rest of the team remained unchanged.

And it could have been so different with Thame missing a number of chances in the first half to take the lead In fact it was Thame who dominated the opening 15 minutes with seven attempts on goal however it was the visitors who took the lead on 16 minutes, a goal out of nothing and not one the Thame defence will want to see again, A seemingly comfortable cross into the Thame box from the left was dropped by the keeper under challenge from the visitors centre forward as the ball dropped it was played back to the Beaconsfield number 8, his goal bound shot looked like it would be cleared as two Thame players were on the line, only for them to get in each others way and deflect the ball into the net. Thame fought back and continued to threaten the Beaconsfield goal, with at least half a dozen more attempts, it was the visitors that doubled their lead on 32 minutes, Thame lost the ball in midfield, with the Beaconsfield number 8 turning and running at the defence, he passed four Thame players with non of them able to put a challenge in he ran in on goal and calmly slotted the ball into the goal passed the advancing keeper. Two attempts on goal for the visitors and two goals and thats how it stayed until the half time whistle blew.

The second half got under way in driving rain which made the conditions difficult, Thame continued to push forward with Jenson Wright shot pulling out a good save from the visitors keeper pushing the ball out for a corner, which was defender for another one. This time as the ball came in, a goal bound header was not held by the Beaconsfield keeper and fell at the feet of Fin Murray a couple of yards out who prodded the ball into the net. Thame made a double substitution on 56 minutes with Louis Walsh and Harry Alexander replacing Curtis Brown and Jenson Wright, but just when you thought it was game on another defensive error let the Beasconfield number 8 to pick the ball up on the edge of the area and run in and score his third of the game. Thame appealed for a throw in on the left touch line but the ball hadn’t gone out of play, the ball was played forward and missed by the Thame defence for the number 8 to run onto and score.

The game was all over on 66 minutes as the Beaconsfield number 8 scored his forth of the game, picking the ball up on the half way line he drove forward beating several players and from the right hand side of the box dinked the ball over the keeper, another poor goal to concede, with no player managing to put a tackle in on the player. Ethan Lack replaced Mark Riddick on 69 minutes but the game was effectively over and although Thame pushed forward and created several more chances there was no way back and despite creating over 20 chances in the game a combination of an off day at the back and not being clinical in front of goal saw another home defeat conceding four goals in the process.
