Thame United welcomed Hertford Town to the ASM Stadium on Tuesday for this twice postponed match in the pitching in Southern League Central Division One clash of the fifth and sixth place teams. The two teams were separated by just three points at the start of the evening, with the home side looking to bounce back from two defeats in a week ending their eleven match unbeaten run, while Hertford came into the game winning the last two games and scoring twelve goals in the process. The home side continued to press with Ethan Lack's shot from the edge of the area saved by the Hertford Keeper, then after some good build up play in the final third Harry Alexander shot from the edge of the box, it took a big deflection and almost wrong footed the keeper who managed to correct his footing and dived on the ball.
Against the run of play and with their first shot of the game, Hertford were level in the 24th minute through number 8 Billy Heaps, who found the net to make it 1-1 after a break on the left hand side the ball was crossed into the box and he managed to turn under pressure and get his shot away which crept into the right hand side of the goal past the diving keeper Starkey. Thame continued to press and Louis Walsh had a shot just wide of the goal to the left on 26 minutes, then on 32 minutes after a good run on the left and into the box his shot was just wide of the far post with the keeper beaten. Captain Mark Riddick found his name in the referees book with a mistimed sliding tackle. The home side then had the ball in the net, with a header from Fin Murray but he was judged to be offside, as the half drew to a close both Braden Daniel and Ethan lack had chances but didn't trouble the keeper. The half ended with the scores level, not a fair reflection of the half with the home side dominating the game with the shot count 10 to 1 in their favour.
The second half continue in the same vain as the first with Thame playing a high press not allowing the visitors to get into their passing game and continued to dominate the game and it wasn't long before they regained the lead in the 57th minute. The visitors had their first foray into the Thame box on 68 minutes a long cross from the right hand side was met by a Hertford head but tamely wide of the goal. The hosts extended their advantage in the 69th minute when Harry Alexander played a superb ball from inside his own half inside the right back for Brayden Daniel to run onto he drove into the penalty area and calmly slid the ball under the advancing keeper.
Ethan Lack and Jack Tutton then picked up yellow cards in quick succession both for fouls with Thame continuing to pile the pressure on with Louis Walsh then shooting over from just outside the area. The visitors had a rare incursion into the Thame half in the 73rd minute after winning a free kick on the left hand side level with the edge of the area but it was a poor delivery high over the bar. But still the home side kept coming Brayden Daniels shot on 74 minutes was well save down to the keepers left. While Hertford wasted another opportunity at the other end with a shot well wide to the left after a headed clearance fell kindly to the number 16. Thame wrapped the game up on 78 minutes, a clearance from the Hertford number 6 from inside his box fell to Jack Tutton he played it straight back and as the number 6 advanced to meet the ball he mistimed his jump the ball bounced over his head, with Louis Walsh first to the ball, he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper and sided footed the ball into an empty net. Thame made two substitutions on 85 minutes, with Curtis Brown and Luke Tingey coming on for Mark Riddick and Ethan Lack who had both put in a really good shift in the midfield. The referee added 4 minutes at the end of the 90 Hertford pulled one back in stoppage time on 92 minutes when Billy Mardell-Smith scored their second with a header that crept in at the far post and with almost the last kick of the game had a shot rebound off of the cross bar.
