Thame United vs Leverstock GreenMatch Preview 10 October

Martin Pacetti

Back in league action this Saturday as we welcome Leverstock Green to the ASM Stadium

After last weekend’s FA Cup exit to Eastbourne Borough, Thame United now concentrate on the league and start to catch up on the games they have missed. It’s been a great run for the team, reaching the third qualifying rounds of the FA Cup and FA Trophy and playing eight games along the way. They have four games to rearrange, which means they will have a tough run of fixtures and will be playing on Saturday’s and Tuesday’s throughout October and November.

This weekend, Leverstock Green are the visitors to the ASM stadium for the fourth meeting between the two teams. This is Leverstock’s third season at Step Four after being promoted for the 2024/25 season. They consolidated their position in the league by finishing twelfth last season. Thame have the upper hand in the four meetings so far, winning three, while Leverstock have won once. Last season, the first meeting was in August at Leverstock, with the home side winning 2–1 thanks to a 97th-minute penalty. The reverse fixture in December saw Thame win 4–0 at the ASM.

The visitors are currently in seventeenth place, with seven points from nine games: one win, four draws and four defeats. They suffered early cup exits in the FA Cup and FA Trophy. Last time out, they lost at home to Beaconsfield Town, but in the previous game they put five past Ware.

Meanwhile, this will be Thame’s sixth league game, and they are now trailing some teams by four games. After the opening-day defeat to Royston, they have drawn one and won three, beating Beaconsfield Town 3–0 in their last league game and currently sit in twelfth place with ten points. Saturday proved a step too far for the hosts against for strong step three side in Eastbourne Borough. They held their own until the 89th minute, when they conceded the only goal of the game in front of the biggest crowd at the ASM Stadium for a number of seasons, with more than 400 people watching. The performance was similar to the previous weekend, when Thame went out of the FA Trophy to Chichester. In both games, they were in the contest for most of the match.
