Thame United welcome Welwyn Garden City to the ASM Stadium this weekend in the Southern League Division One Central.
Last season Welwyn did the double over Thame winning 1 - 0 at The ASM Stadium in February then in April it was a seven goal thriller, with a 4 - 3 victory, at Hernes Way. with Welwyn being 3 - 0 up at half time and 4 - 1 up but two late goals form Charlie Stow bringing Thame back into the game and had a chance to equalise at the death. The two teams have met fifthteen times in recent history since 2018 all in the Southern League with Welwyn having the upper hand with seven victories to Thame’s four with four draws. The visitors this weekend have seen a change of manager at the start of the season appointing Gavin Kelsey following Marc Weatherstone’s exit from Herns Way. Gavin joined from Cockfosters where he had a memorable season with Spartan South Midland side, whom he took to two cup finals in the season just ended. He steered the north Londoners to Wembley in the final of the FA Vase, only to lose on penalties to Hampshire side AFC Stoneham, after a goalless draw. This season he has taken the team to fourth place in the league this sitting on twenty points after ten games with six wins, two draws and two defeats and put five past London Lions on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile Thame have had a difficult last two league games and their recent run of good form has somewhat deserted them Saturday saw a defeat at home to Leverstock Green in a really below par performance then on Tuesday they faced an away trip to bottom of the table Flackwell Heath and they throughly deserved a 4 - 0 victory, with Thame really struggling to get into the game and gave away some soft goals, which result in their heaviest defeat for a number of seasons. There will be a lot of soul searching this week to try and understand why the team have put in a couple of performances which haven't been seen for a while. Thame currently sit in sixteen place in the table but still have a couple of games in hand on the teams around them.
Kick Off at the ASM Stadium 15:00
