Tattenhoe Women 3 - 4 Thame United Women

Back to Winning Ways.

Thame United Women traveled to Tattenhoe women in the Thames Valley Counties Women's league Division 2 North. Four weeks ago they faced Tattenhoe at The ASM Stadium where the points were shared in a 3 - 3 draw as Tattenhoe scored a last minute equaliser.

Manager Ryan Comley made four changes to the starting eleven that dropped out of the league cup last Sunday with Skipper Amy Cowen, Talia Mead, Ailsa Milne and Sarah Winfield all returning to the side.

The Red Kites started the game well but with 6 minutes on the clock it was Tattenhoes Sinead Walsh who put Tattenhoe in front after a mistake at the back saw her through on goal to fire home.

Once again Thame found themselves with all the possession and gaining momentum when a strike from Talia Mead is saved by Tattenhoes Keeper and behind for a corner, which was taken by Talia Mead who finds Skipper Amy Cowen unmarked in the middle of the box to head into the top left corner continuing her goal per game ratio.

It was developing into a really open game with action at both ends of the pitch, both keepers pulling off some amazing saves. Tattenhoe found themselves with a corner on the 41st minute. Sinead Walsh plays a flat ball to the front post and Natasha Braithwaite headed home at the near post.

Tattenhoe looked to be going into the break a goal to the good when Amy Cowen saw a perfect opportunity to repay Talia Mead. Sending a defence splitting through ball into the path of Talia who calmly rolled the ball through the Tattenhoe keepers legs. Half time and it’s 2:2

10 minutes into the second half Thame found themselves with another corner, Talia Mead whipped in a hard cross which found its way into the back of the net giving Thame the lead for the first time in the game.

Thame looked to extend their lead when Bella Fulton had an effort saved, however it was only pushed out as far as Shona Reid-Evans who smashed home for her 7th goal of the season.

Thame looked to see out the second half being 4:2 up but Tattenhoe didn’t give up and carried on fighting. The referee awarded a free kick in the 80th minute to Tattenhoe. Skipper Katie O’Brien stepped up and fired it home of the post making the game 4:3.

Neither team wanted the game to end as they both pushed on for another goal. Deep into stoppage time Thame had a brilliant break down the right hand side which saw Talia Mead have an effort saved by a fully stretch Tattenhoe keeper but a goal kick was awarded. Tattenhoe had one last attack with the keeper sending the ball long but bounced straight into the hands of Lillie Eames.

The win moves the Red Kites up to third place in the league a point behind Tattenhoe with two games in hand.
