United made a few changes to the line-up following the defeat at Milton United on Saturday, with Greg Williams coming in to midfield, Ben Connelly moving to the right and Taylor Collins taking the place of Louis Cordice up front.
Whilst the opening exchanges were fairly even, it was the visitors who started to find their rhythm and passing moreso than United, who were struggling with the slower pace of the game. However, despite their possession, Clanfield rarely threatened the Thame goal, although a mistake after ten minutes did allow the visiting forward a clear opportunity on goal but his shot from an acute angle went wide of the far post. United eventually got in to their stride and took the lead after 27 minutes when Lynton Goss, picking the ball up in his own half, went on a mazy 60 yard run and, in drawing-in defenders, released the ball to Connelly on the wide right who confidently placed the ball in the far corner of the goal. It was 2-0 a little over five minutes later when Ollie Lynch won the ball in the visitors half and finished with confidence.
United made it 3-0 four minutes in to the second half when Taylor Collins fed Lynton Goss on the left, who beat his man before driving the ball beyond the keeper from a tight angle. By this time, United were in a comfortable position, but a few minutes later Clanfield pulled a goal back with Jack Ellis scoring from close range following a corner. For the remainder of the game Clanfield had the majority of possession but were unable to penetrate a well-marshalled defence.
