From start to finish the game was full of chances for both sides, with the main difference being that United were clinical with their opportunities whereas the home side were more wasteful. With United pushing their opponents in to their own half from the off it was no real surprise when the first goal arrived on 11 minutes. Lynton Goss, who caused the home defence difficulties all game, cut back on to his right foot and from wide on the left floated a cross in to the box that was met by a powerful header from Taylor Collins whose placement gave the keeper no chance. Ten minutes later and it was 2-0 as a Taylor Collins free kick was deflected over the head of the keeper by a home defender and in off the underside of the bar.
Brimscombe then came in to the game and had a ten minute spell with three good opportunities. Firstly, an open goal went begging before keeper Lee Farrow pulled off a fine save from a header following a Brimscombe corner. A minute later and a cross from the right caused problems in the Thame defence and Farrow was on hand to block a shot from a yard out.
In so doing, United managed to hold to their two goal lead going in to the break. As it was, the score was 3-0 shortly after the break when Collins received a clever pass from Ben Connelly and stroked the ball beyond the keeper. Collins then completed his hat-trick, and Thame’s fourth in the 57th minute finishing well from a Lynton Goss cross. The home side had an opportunity to get back in to the game five minutes later when they were awarded a fortuitous penalty, which the striker placed wide of Farrow and wide of the goal as well. Shortly afterwards the home side thought they had pulled a goal back, but it was ruled out for off-side. United then had a chance to make it five, but substitute Luke Ricketts was unlucky to see his effort come back off the post.
The home side finally scored in the 88th minute with a well take finish from the edge of the box. A minute later and a free kick from the right was forced home at the far post to make it 4-2. United then maintained possession for the remainder of the game to see out the victory and a third win that puts them fifth in the early season table.
