For the second time in a week United came out winners by the odd goal in seven as they progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Manager Mark West made a number of changes to the side, with Chris Flowers in goal, Andy Gledhill on the right, and a new centre-back pairing of Jon Coverley and John Mulholland, the latter a recent signing from Aylesbury United. The early exchanges were fairly even, but it was the hosts who took the lead on 10 minutes when a ball from the right was confidently converted at close range. United pressed forward but were unable to find any openings although on 16 minutes a quick turn by Dan West in the area saw his left foot shot come back off the underside of the bar. Five minutes later and Marcus Mealing looked like he had won a penalty, only for the referee to dismiss the appeals.

The equaliser eventually arrived five minutes before the break when Marcus Mealing received the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal, quickly turned his marker, and fired beyond the keeper. The goal galvanised United and after the break they pressed the home side in to their own half and took the lead on 47 minutes when Ollie Lynch played the ball out to Dan Jones whose first time cross was met by Mealing at the far post. It was 3-1 shortly after when Adam Morris struck a fierce volley from 25 yards that gave the keeper no chance.

Somewhat against the run of play Fairford pulled a goal back on 78 minutes when, following a ricochet in the box, the ball fell kindly to the Fairford forward who placed the ball wide of Flowers. However, United restored their two-goal lead only a minute later when Dan West pounced on an Adam Morris shot that the keeper could not hold to poke home from the penalty spot. This ought to have been game over, but with five minutes to go Fairford got their third goal. Despite the goal, United held on comfortably for the remainder of the game, to book their passage in to the next round.
