On a difficult pitch, an early goal was enough for United to secure three points and a return to the top five.

Manager Mark West made a number of changes to the side beaten by Sutton Coldfield Town last weekend, with Craig Hill in goal, Lynton Goss returning to partner Dan West, and left-sided player Matt Peake-Pijnen making his debut having signed recently from Aylesbury United.

The only goal of the match arrived in the third minute when, following a throw-in, the ball was delivered in to the Kidlington penalty area and somehow found its way through to an unmarked Jamie Essex at the far post who headed in to an empty goal. United continued to press, forcing a number of corners, before Kidlington started to find their feet, retaining possession without any real threat to Hill in the Thame goal. That changed in the 34th minute when Odhiambo managed to free himself of his markter just inside the penalty area and produced a chipped effort that forced Hill to turn the ball over the bar for a corner. That proved to be the last meaningful action to a half that lack any significant goalmouth action.

The home side made a number of changes at half time and, with United generally content to sit on their lead and play on the break, Kidlington continued to enjoy the majority of possession. Again, however, Hill was rarely threatened, albeit he was a spectator in the 63rd minutes when substitute Declan Benjamin struck an effort from 25 yards that came back off the bar and away to safety. Shortly afterwards Thame skipper Ben Sturgess forced Warrell to push the ball over the bar from a looping effort before Tom Ashwoth found himself in space on the right hand side and his cross almost floated in at the far post. Cowlishaw then drove an effort just wide of the post for the hosts before some trickery from Lynton Goss on the left saw him work his way in to the area only for a combination of the pitch and home defenders bring an end to the attack.

The final moments of the match saw United maintaining possession well and forcing the home side to play long balls in to the box that rarely found an attacker and, generally, were comfortably dealt with by the United defence.

The win moves United up to fourth in the table, with a tough match to come at the ASM Stadium on Saturday when Cambridge City are the visitors.
