Thame U15’s Crowned Champions
There was 80 minutes of lively nonstop, hard hitting football action at Oxford
City’s home ground which saw Thame U15s beat Carterton 3 - 2 in a thrilling Oxford
Mail Youth Football League Knock Out Cup final that had fans on the edge of their seats right to the end.
The first goal was scored by Tom Kernik in the 22nd minute from a well place 30 yard free kick tucked neatly into the bottom left corner of the goal. Carterton responded immediately with a counter attack levelling the score with a header from a corner to make it 1-1.
10 mins later Thame were 2-1 up with a cheeky steal from the keeper by Alfie Macintosh and the drama continued as less than a minute later Carterton were awarded a penalty which was blasted into the bottom left too strong for Nathan Lawrence’s out stretched hand just before the half time whistle.

Following the re-start to the game there was a real on field battle with the ball going back and forth from one half to the other but without either side scoring. It took until the 75 minute for next goal when Thame were award a free kick at the edge of the box. The brilliant Lestyn Porter stepped up to take the free kick which he measured perfectly curling it around the 4 man wall hitting the post and into the bottom right of the goal, 3-2.
The final 4 minutes of the game felt like a life time, until the final whistle blew with jubilant scenes after the game whereby the boys lifted the Cup and would bring it home to Thame.
Massive congratulations to Manager Richard Carr and the team.
