United got back to winning ways on Saturday as they defeated old rivals, Wokingham and Emmbrook, at a stifling Triangle Ground.

Playing up the slight slope in the first half, United got off to a strong start and almost took the lead on 8 minutes when, following a Luke Ricketts flick, Ben Gray hit a volley that the keeper pushed around the post for a corner. From the resultant corner United took the lead, as Ricketts’s floated cross caused uncertainty in the home defence and Ellis Hercules got the last touch for United to force the ball home.
Thame pushed forward for a second but were unable to capitalise on a number of corners and, as the half wore on, the home side gradually got in to the game, albeit they were unable to put Farrow in the Thame goal under any real pressure. Indeed, an Andy Gledhill header for Thame was well saved by the home keeper on 29 minutes before, on 42 minutes, Gray hit an effort was just over the bar when well placed.
The second half began in similar vein, with United on the front foot. The lead was extended on 58 minutes. Substitute Calvin Evans made a powerful run down the right before his initial cross was blocked, he then received the ball back from Gledhill before drilling a low cross that Gray swept home from close range. At this point it was a relatively comfortable afternoon for United, and Hercules nearly extended the lead further on 68 minutes, his header from a Faulconbridge free kick well saved by the home keeper.
Wokingham did, however, get a lifeline in the 78th minute when, after some hesitation in the United midfield, the ball found its way though to the home forward who beat Farrow at the near post. This gave the hosts a lift and they pressed forward for the remainder of the game (including six minutes injury time). However, Farrow in the Thame goal was rarely troubled and United secured their second away win of the season to make it six points from the first three games.
United:
Farrow, Attwell (Evans), Pykett, Hercules, Owen, Kedzierski (Faulconbridge), Connelly, Lynch, Gray (Jesson), Ricketts.
