Manager Mark West moved to an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation as United looked to best utilise the available resources, against a Henley side looking to avenge a last minute 2-1 defeat in the Quarter Finals of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.
As it was Henley settled the quicker of the two sides, using the width to their advantage and, within the first half hour had opened up a 2-0 goal lead, with United struggling to get in to the match. Luke Ricketts had two good chances to get Thame back in to the match, but it fell to returning striker James Faulkner to score in the 41st minute, with a low left foot shot.
United came out for the second half fired up and laid seige to the Henley goal. The equaliser arrived on 60 minutes when Nik Rhodes met a corner from Dan West with a deft flick of the right foot. Ten minutes later and the same combination gave United the lead, a deep West corner was this time met by the head of Rhodes at the far post giving the keeper no chance. Whilst United retained the upper hand, as the game moved in to the last 10 minutes, Henley started to exert pressure on the Thame goal, and the equaliser arrived two minutes from time via a powerful strike from substitute Fofanah. However, United went straight down the other end with Faulkner earning a corner. Ricketts corner from the left was met by Stewart at the near post who headed the ball beyond keeper Shaun Coker. With time running out, Faulkner put the ball in the net for what appeared to be a fifth goal for Thame, only to be ruled off-side.
As it was United held on to secure the three points.
