Played on a soft and uneven pitch, United took the game to their hosts from the outset and, for long periods of the match, Witney were pegged-back in to their own half, and Nick Bennion in the Thame goal had little to do for much of the match. United opened the scoring after only five minutes when James Faulkner made a good run to the bye-line, crossing for Alex Stewart to finish from close range. Faulkner nearly extended the lead shortly afterwards, but the home keeper did well to push his long range effort over the bar. On 37 minutes, however, United extended their lead when Faulkner lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.
The second half started in similar style, and was only five minutes old when United went 3-0 up. A cross field ball found Luke Ricketts bearing down on goal from wide left. Ricketts controlled the ball and, from just inside the area, hit a strong drive across the keeper and in to the bottom corner of the net. Ben Gray, who came on at half time for Stewart, then got in on the act, clinically finishing with a half volley in to the bottom corner of the net. Faulkner then scored his second, and United’s fifth when, following a good run on the right, he hit a powerful shot in to the bottom right of the goal. The final goal arrived with the last move of the game, Ben Connelly beat his man on the right before crossing to an unmarked Gray to head home.
