It was a close game with the visitors in control for much of the first half but the balance of play reversed after the break. Sadly, key striker James Faulkner received a hamstring injury 10 minutes into the second half and is now likely to be out for the rest of the Season.
Thame started brightly and won a corner when a goal bound shot was deflected. The visitors however cleared the ball and scored in the 4th minute with a fluke goal. Reading striker, Ben Gladwin, hit a high 40-yard ball towards goal which the wind caught and carried over the head of back pedalling keeper Mike Higgs. A few minutes later Higgs made an outstanding save when he got fingertips to a strong shot, deflecting it onto the crossbar. It was one way traffic for a while but Thame recovered towards the end of the half and both Nik Rhodes and Faulkner forced good saves from the visiting keeper.
Whatever was said to the United team in the half time dressing room worked as they were far more effective in the of second half and created some good chances to equalise. Perhaps the best fell to Dan West who met a ball from the left with a side footed shot which brought a good save from the, on form, Reading keeper. Matt Hall, Nik Rhodes and Louis Cordice also had half chances which were not converted. United kept pushing to the end, with Dave Hocking brought on to increase United's aerial threat, with a last minute corner causing confusion in the visitor's defence with Thame getting the luck they perhaps deserved.
Thame United: M. Higgs, I Pykett, Hall, Meredith, N Rhodes, Hayes, Connelly, West, Faulkner (A Rhodes), Cordice (Hocking), Ricketts.
