United went in to the game with only one change from the side that had defeated Wimborne Town the previous week, with Adam Morris replacing the suspended Dan West.

The first half started slowly – a theme that continued for the whole of the opening 45 minutes – with the game contained in the central third of the field and chances at a premium. The first opportunity came on six minutes when the ball found its way out to Luke Ricketts on the left who hit a shot from the edge of the box that Jenkins parried before the ball was eventually cleared. Aylesbury probed and, from a corner on 12 minutes, a header from Davis Haule went just wide. Lynton Goss, playing against his old club, then saw a free kick pushed around the post for a corner on 21 minutes, with the resultant delivery headed just wide by James McGowan. That was the last meaningful action of the half, as both sides cancelled each other out.

United were on the front foot straight from the kick off in the second half and, four minutes in, a cross from the left appeared to strike the hand of an Aylesbury defender but the referee waved away the appeals. Shortly afterwards, a Goss free kick from the wide left was met by the head of McGowan but he could only direct the ball straight in to the arms of Jenkins.

However the deadlock was broken in some style on 62 minutes. Collecting the ball on the wide left, Goss cut inside and from 25 yards hit an unstoppable shot beyond Jenkins and in to the top right hand corner of the net. Shortly afterwards it was nearly two, as Goss this time beat his marker on the right and hit a shot that ricocheted off the near post. On 70 minutes Goss won a free kick on the edge of the box that David Lynn curled around the wall only for Jenkins to push over the bar.

Just as it looked as though United would take the three points – and three points that would have been well deserved on the balance of play – a ball was played in to the Thame box on 94 minutes where Jordan Jenkins rose highest at the far post to head back across Craig Hill and in to the net.

United return to cup action next week when Worthing are the visitors in the FA Trophy.
